Revisit Rate: how many patients come back when they are due

Revisit Rate is the share of patients who come back for their next scheduled follow-up within an agreed window. You count the patients due a follow-up in a period, then count how many of them attended. In homeopathy, where treatment runs over months, it is the clearest single measure of whether a clinic keeps the patients it has already won.

The formula, in words and as an expression

In words: count the patients due a follow-up in the period, count how many attended within your window, and divide the second by the first.

Fix the period (usually a calendar month) and the window (say seven days after the due date). Keep both the same every month, or the trend means nothing.

Revisit Rate =

patients who attended their next scheduled follow-up within the window

patients due a follow-up in the period

Why it matters more than first-visit count

A first visit tells you your marketing worked. The follow-up tells you whether the treatment and the clinic did.

Homeopathy treats chronic conditions over months. A patient who stops after visit two has not been treated, will not renew a scheme and will not refer a cousin. A clinic can raise first visits every month with Facebook ads and still shrink, because the follow-up list leaks faster than the enquiry list fills.

That is why we say a clinic grows on its follow-ups, not its first visits.

How to measure it from a paper register

You need the appointment register and an hour.

  1. 1 Pick last month. List every patient whose follow-up date fell in that month.
  2. 2 For each one, check whether they came within your window.
  3. 3 Count both lists. Divide.

The 12 who did not come are the useful part. Call them this week. Then repeat the count per doctor, because a branch figure can hide one doctor whose patients drift.

The hard part is step one. Most registers record who came, not who was due. If follow-up dates are not written at the consultation, you cannot measure Revisit Rate at all.

Worked example (illustration only, made-up demo numbers, not from any real clinic):

Kothrud branch, last month

0.7 7 in every 10
Patients due a follow-up
40
Came within seven days of the due date
28

28 ÷ 40 = 0.7, or 7 in every 10

How RevisitPlus tracks Revisit Rate

RevisitPlus records the next follow-up date on the Doctor Dashboard during the consultation, so the "due" list builds itself. Patients who do not come show as missed visits the same day, on the Doctor Dashboard and on reception's screen.

The owner reads Revisit Rate by branch, by doctor and by treatment scheme, on the Owner Dashboard and in MIS Reports. Wakad against Hadapsar. Dr. Kulkarni against Dr. Shaikh. The six-month alopecia scheme against the three-month one. Owner Dashboard, MIS Reports

What moves Revisit Rate

LeverWhat it doesWhere in RevisitPlus
Follow-up date set at the consultation Turns "come after a month" into a date the clinic can track /features/doctor-dashboard
WhatsApp reminder before the date Reaches the patient where they already read messages /features/whatsapp-reminders
Same-day missed-visit list Reception calls while the reason is fresh, not at month end /features/follow-ups
One record across branches A patient who moves to another branch still counts as returned /features/patient-record

Revisit Rate questions

Is Revisit Rate the same as patient retention?
It is a sharper version. Retention usually counts anyone who came back at any time. Revisit Rate counts only patients who returned for the follow-up they were due, within your window, so it works as a weekly number.
What is a good Revisit Rate for a homeopathy clinic?
There is no published benchmark for Indian homeopathy clinics that we trust. Measure your own figure for three months, by branch and doctor, then work on the lowest one. Your own trend is the benchmark that matters.
Does a patient who visits another branch count as a revisit?
Yes, if the clinic shares one patient record. The patient kept their follow-up. On paper, that visit often looks like a missed patient at one branch and a new one at the other.
Can I measure Revisit Rate without software?
Yes, from the register, as shown above, provided follow-up dates were written at each consultation. Software saves the hour and makes the figure available by branch, doctor and scheme every day.
